Ripple (XRP) was founded in 2012 as a digital payment network designed for global financial institutions. XRP, the native cryptocurrency of the XRP Ledger, powers cost-efficient cross-border payments and has become one of the most recognized digital assets in the world.
XRP Price Timeline: Key Milestones
XRP first entered the market at less than $0.01 in 2012–2013. For the first several years, prices remained extremely low — below $0.01 for most of 2013 and 2014. The lowest recorded price was $0.0028 in July 2014.
The first significant rally came in May 2017, when XRP briefly spiked above $0.30 before pulling back. But the real surge came later that year — by year-end 2017, XRP had reached $2.30, up over 36,000% for the year.
The 2018 All-Time High
On January 4, 2018, XRP reached its all-time high of approximately $3.84, driven by a euphoric cryptocurrency bull market. From there, prices fell sharply through the rest of 2018, ending the year below $0.35.
2019–2020: Sideways and the SEC Shock
XRP spent most of 2019 and 2020 trading below $0.30. In late 2020, the US Securities and Exchange Commission filed a lawsuit against Ripple Labs, causing XRP to plunge from around $0.70 to $0.20 within weeks.
2021 Recovery and Beyond
Despite the legal battle, XRP rebounded in 2021, briefly trading above $1.50 in April. By early 2026, XRP was trading between $1.39 and $1.45, with a 52-week high of $3.65 set in late 2025.
